A Simple Gift, a Significant Impact

Michael MitalWhen fellow Pace alumnus Michael Mital '11 first enrolled in the university's Lubin School of Business, he promised himself that he would seize every opportunity for personal, educational and professional enrichment that came his way.

After a resoundingly successful undergraduate experience—wherein he was able to study abroad in Austria and Switzerland, help steward the $400,000 university-sponsored Pace Student Management Portfolio and much more—Michael secured an internship with the financial services firm Northwestern Mutual. It was there, while receiving a crash course in financial planning, that he began to understand the power of forward-looking giving strategies.

For Michael's parents, an ethic of selflessness and a spirit of philanthropy were must-haves, and he fully intended to extend their legacy of generosity. Michael knew it was never a question of if he would give back to Pace, but how.

Ultimately, Michael chose the path of planned giving—arranging a contribution in the present to be distributed at a future date. He named Pace as a beneficiary on a life insurance policy, one that will continue to grow steadily throughout his long career and beyond. Michael says he hopes his gift will one day help ensure students' success, reinforce the strength of the facilities across Pace's campuses and support student-focused programs like those that were instrumental in informing his own personal and professional growth.

"I'd always planned on giving back to Pace, and because I'm younger, my gift will increase more as each year passes," Michael says. "Eventually, when Pace does receive the gift, it will make an important difference to the university."

Michael's story makes one thing clear: It's never too early to start preparing for a future of giving and identifying unique and impactful ways to support the causes that are important to you. Pace's extraordinary young alumni are especially well-positioned to leave a transformational, enduring mark on the university, its students and its larger community.
