Educator's Gift Creates Opportunities for Future Generations

Brian Evans

Brian Evans

Brian Evans joined the Pace family in 2007 as an assistant professor of Math Education in our School of Education. He came for an esteemed position, but what he found was much greater: a calling. He went on to earn tenure and promotion, become department chair and later on served as assistant and associate dean for the School of Education. He has also served University-wide roles as assistant provost for experiential learning and as coordinator of our premier Pace Path program, to help students with internships and career readiness programs. In addition, he currently serves as interim chair of the Math Department on the New York campus.

Always one to place great value on education, Brian's diverse roles at Pace have allowed him to focus on making education accessible for everyone. Brian recently observed why he and Pace have been such a good match:

"It comes down to the students and it comes down to the Pace mission. I firmly believe everybody at Pace is committed to the idea of opportunitas—and that is creating opportunity—and it really comes out in our ranking of upward mobility. The students at Pace are wonderful. They are strivers, people who are very motivated and want to get a lot out of life and their education. It's a really rewarding place to teach and work."

For these reasons, Brian's dedication to Pace extends to his philanthropic priorities: Brian has included Pace students in his estate, to ensure that the critical work he's conducting continues.

"I was working on my own will and I was thinking about where, other than family, I want to be charitable. Pace came very easily to my mind because Pace has given so much to me and I want to make sure that future generations of students have the same opportunities that students right now have. I couldn't think of a better way than leaving something for Pace to continue its mission when I'm no longer a part of it."

Brian Evans' commitment, inside and outside of the classroom, is truly inspiring. He's created, and continues to foster, an educational environment that caters to his students' individual needs and sets them up for success. Without educators and donors like Brian, Pace would not be the life-changing institution it is today.
