Making a Permanent Mark at Pace
For Loretta Menger '60, philanthropy to Pace University is all about bringing it full circle. "I was on a full tuition scholarship for my last two years at Pace," she reminisces. "I just thought it was the right thing for me to start giving back. The idea of establishing a scholarship for a deserving, hardworking Pace student was very appealing to me."
Loretta named Pace as a beneficiary of her mutual fund as part of her establishment of a planned gift, with the proceeds to be used to establish the Loretta M. Menger Scholarship Fund. "I'm a financial advisor by profession," Loretta explains. "I analyzed my portfolio and since I had no heirs, I knew that Pace would be a worthy recipient of part of my estate. I found that partially financing my legacy gift through a mutual fund was a cost-effective, efficient, and easy way for me to make a permanent mark at the University."
With this gift, Loretta hopes to make a real difference in someone's life. "This would enable someone to go to college who perhaps couldn't otherwise," she shares. "When I go to the annual President's Scholarship and Benefactor Dinner in the spring, I always joke that my scholarship recipient hasn't been born yet! It's a joke, but I think it shows the importance of planned giving—its effects can reverberate for years and even decades afterwards."
